Stock up on fall firewood to take the chill off your Berlin CT home this season. Stonehedge Landscaping Co. carries an ample supply of split seasoned firewood for your wood stoves and fireplaces. Many of our customers use wood stoves as a supplemental heat source during the colder months. Wood stoves are generally more efficient at producing heat than a fireplace. There are many types of wood stoves on the market, but most fit into one of two categories. There are freestanding stoves and there are wood stove inserts that are installed into the opening of your existing fireplace.
The freestanding style stands alone and connects to the chimney through a chimney connector, or may share the flue of an existing fireplace. It also may vent into a separate chimney built to accommodate the stove. In many cases an electric blower helps circulate the heat into your room.
Before you fire up your wood stove for the first time, it is important to have your chimney inspected to determine whether it may be used with a wood stove. Wood stoves generate very hot combustion gases, so your chimney must be either masonry or manufactured specifically for burning wood. It should not be connected to a chimney flue that serves another appliance, such as a furnace, boiler or other wood stove. Consequences of doing so could include causing a fire or releasing carbon monoxide into your home.
